i am the NJCAA National Champion in the Decathlon. this is my best bet to make the USA nationals. only problem is im moving to florida to train full time. but i dont have the facilities, or throwing impliments, and especially a technical coach to help me through everything. what do i do? i have a SOLID running coach though. the plan was to go to Florida State. i can make the team but my academics dont allow me to get in exactly.

Davis, Irvine, Santa Barbara, or Santa Cruz? I'm planning to get all As in these classes..if not, As and Bs. I really messed up the first semester of my sophomore year so I'm trying to get very good grades and take difficult classes that can boost my gpa to make up for it.
I'm an incoming junior this fall.
JUNIOR YEAR (it's too late to change these classes)
English 3
Spanish 3
Chemistry
Algebra 2
AP US History
Public Speaking 1
Summer of junior year: I'm planning to take 2 college courses probably in psychology or sociology.
SENIOR YEAR:
AP English Literature
AP US Government with Economics(No AP for Econ)
AP Biology
Math Analysis (It's a less rigorous version of Pre-calculus)
Analytical Forensic Science ROP (or maybe Spanish 4 Honors in replacement of Forensics..I just feel that there aren't very many institutions that offer forensic science and many that offer spanish, so I should take advantage of the opportunities available for me. Plus, I'm really interested in this course.)
I'm also planning to be in Academic Decathlon, Model United Nations, Speech and Debate Club, and Human Rights Club for both junior and senior year. I also have some volunteer activities that I do on the side. Any tips, suggestions, comments, feedback?
Thank you!

happens to beat the time, or distance, of say the 100 meters or the long jump attained by the winner of the corresponding official event at the same Olympics, does his time or distance count for the said event? Has it ever happened that the decathlon athlete has bettered the 'official' event winner in this way?
Pytanie #8:
Hello all,
I am going to be a senior in high school in America; in southern California, to be exact,
and I want to go to a university in London. I'm not even thinking about Oxbridge; it's far out of my league, but I was looking at all of the constituent colleges of the University of London; particularly King's College, Queen Mary, Royal Holloway, and Goldsmiths. I was also thinking about the University of East London as well as Kingston, Middlesex, and Westminster. I was wondering if anyone could, giving my qualifications, predict my chances of getting into any of these universities. Thanks very much!
I am an International Bacchalaurete candidate; I am a fully-fledged candidate for the diploma; and for both my junior year (this previous year) as well as my senior year, I will be taking three Standard Levels and three Higher Levels.
I am captain of my school's debate team, president of the Active Earth Club, president of the Politics History club, copyeditor of the school newspaper, copyeditor of the Literary Arts Magazine, a member of the National Honour Society, president of the Junior Statesmen of America, and captain/scholastic team member of the Academic Decathlon team. In addition, I am head intern opinion columnist for the local newspaper, the Village News.
I also play guitar, piano and harmonica and am self-taught in all of those instruments.
In addition, I taught myself calligraphy, basic French, thus giving the ability to converse in English, Tagalog, Spanish, and French.
I don't mean to be arrogant, but I can also write a killer essay. In the Academic Decathlon competition this year, I wrote an essay which scored a perfect 1000, the highest scoring essay in the state in fifteen years. :)
I am vexed only by the grades that I have so far received. I have not yet taken the ACT nor the SAT but I shall take those at the start of my senior year. I took three SAT Subject Tests/SAT II's, and did farely well on US History, Spanish and Literature.
My cumulative GPA, unweighted is 3.60, weighted, it is at 4.20. I've received mostly A's and B's throughout my high school career, with the exception of a C minus in AP Calculus BC. My class rank is thirty in a class of about 770.
My AP Exam results are as follows:
AP European History: 4
AP Calculus BC: 4
AP Calculus AB Subscore: 4
AP Psychology: 4
AP English Composition: 5
So what do you guys think? Do you think that this is good enough? Thank you all very much for the feedback!

I am fourteen and going into my sophomore year of high school. I'm in the International Baccalaureate program and am taking advanced/honors classes. I'm part of several clubs, including a book club, marching band, winter drumline, animal rights, the literary magazine, drama, and a writer's critique group at a local bookstore. I am an intelligent, mature girl. I have good friends who support me and stand up for me. They're also very intelligent people. We watch BBC documentaries together, for pete's sake.
My mom doesn't trust me with anything after a pedophile went after me.
We've had two fights this week, both of which have left me bawling in my room. She's called me insecure for wanting people to read my writing, and she told me that I only "acted the way I did" because I wanted attention at school. The way I act? Well, I tell a few dirty jokes that are obviously jokes, and are in no way vulgar or intolerant. She told me that on my Facebook page, the jokes I said made me sound "loose" and "like a whore." (She told me this when I asked for support because a boy bullies me at school). She thinks that when I hang out with guys, they're after something when they're not. I hang out with nerdy boys on Academic Decathlon for heaven's sake. We aren't doing anything. I haven't ever even been kissed. She also once lectured me about a secret boyfriend I was supposed to have.
She also told me that my career path was pretty much worthless (I want to write for TV) because I'd never make it, and that I should look for a career in teaching. I don't want to be a teacher. I want to write because writing is my passion. I'm at work at a novel.
I stand up for myself amidst these accusations, but I end up crying because that's what I do when I feel intimidated. What can I do to make her understand that I am growing up and that I'm my own person? She doesn't understand that I'm not a slut, and that really hurts me. I understand that she would be wary after this creep guy went after me and stalked me (she refuses to admit that he even was a creep), but this is overbearing and irrational. We are complete polar opposites and she just makes me want to move out even more. I'm an artist and she's way more scientific. She thinks that my ability with words is a hobby and it's not--it's a passion that I want to pursue.
What can I do, moms? Thank you. And I apologize if I ranted.
She also doesn't trust me with my hair. I recently went from a bob to a pixie cut, and she always remarks on how masculine I look.
And whenever an adult vouches for me, she completely understands, but whenever I bring up the same point, she treats it like it's nothing.

This stereotype is not that is annoying or anything is just plain stupid!
I mean what about cycling , swimming , gymnastics , wrestling , pole vault , triple jump , triathlon , weightlifting , discus , javelin , decathlon , soccer , rugby , cricket , hockey , ice skating and so many other sports that 95% of the elite athletes are either whites or Asians??
Since when basketball and sprints is the definition of athleticism?
Put Bolt in a swimming pool with Michael Phelps or Bolt in a cage with Fedor and then we will talk about it again :)
PS
Not to sound racist but 95% of sports are white and asian dominated,Olympic medals ratios is the clear proof!
Fragile, people pay attention the most in soccer, which white people dominate in most cases :)
The final of world cup in sunday will be between 2 white teams:)
Pytanie #13:
I've got a really complicated situation here. I'm usually a pretty bright person. I don't think negative thoughts or anything. However, in the past week or so, I have been in a foul mood. Not like I've snapped at people, but for whatever reason, I'm thinking mean, awful thoughts that I would never think under normal circumstances. I still have the self-control to more or less act the same however. Several things have changed as of late, and I'm wondering which are most responsible for this change in me.
- A couple months ago I was diagnosed with depression. I was given anti-depressants, and they help a fair bit. In the past couple weeks, I have forgotten to take them regularly, but I still take them every once in a while.
- Due to it being Summer, I have been having a very strange sleep schedule. I have been sleeping from around 7 in the morning to 7 at night. And this last week, I've had a very erratic pattern of sleep, as driver's ed has started up, so I have to get up early. I've gone the past three days with about 10 hours of sleep overall.
- I am enrolled in an online class, and I procrastinated big time. I've got about 60% of the class left to do in 8 days. I think I can do it, but It's still a lot of stress. I also have an assload of Summer work from Academic Decathlon that I have been lazy and not working on. Realizing the impending doom this situation implies, I am full of stress.
- I spend about half my waking hours on my laptop, and the other half out with friends. While on my laptop I usually either work on the previously stated work, or I read. Maybe my activities or something are screwing with me.
- I've been dating a girl on and off for about 2 years. I'm crazy about her, and I just broke up with a different girl because of it. I've recently started talking to her again and I can't get her out of my head, although she's very busy and I almost never get to talk to her.
Any ideas? I just don't want to throw my self-esteem another punch by eliminating the idea that I'm a nice person. Or maybe the problem is deeper. I don't know.
I suppose I should clarify. When school started, there was one day in which I just couldn't manage to get myself going to school. My mom brought me to the Doctor's office, and I talked to a psychiatrist, and that's where I was diagnosed and given the anti-depressants.
Oh and also, I don't want to do anything that will be noticeable by my family. My mom recently broke her leg, and everyone is going through enough stress right now.
As I'm not really positive how to comment on a specific answer, or how to choose an answer as a best answer, I'll just add another detail.
Any time I spend on the computer is one of three things, games, reading, or work. The only friend I drink with has been in Korea for the past month, me and my other friends have been doing nice wholesome things like boardgames and going to the mall.
I think that the games and reading are time for myself. I'm not really sure what makes me happy anymore, I should probably take those pills huh =/
As for the girl, I'm currently trying to be friends with her, but whenever we talk, my feelings get in the way, and I think too much.
But that was a good answer, I'll be sure to do all I can, thank you Aldar =)
It's Adar. My bad.

V. Personal Background
I am more of the introverted, contemplative type of individual who enjoys smaller groups and peaceful quiet time any day. I currently attend a large school (population size > 2100 students), and would love to develop closer relationships with others in a small community, preferrably rural or suburban.
I have not been able to participate in athletics during my entire school career. In addition, my family does not go on "trips" in the outdoors very often. I desire to find independence and a newfound opportunity to explore nature for the four years I spend in college. (Also, if possible, the school offers intramural sports which are easily accessible to anyone interested.).
As unusual as it may sound, I love simplicity. I am not much of an outgoing person who would spend time in frats or such. I am not a huge fan of "cliques" and the intensity of "so-called preppiness" which is so prevalent at my school. I am pretty quirky myself, and would best fit in an environment where it is perfectly acceptable to be yourself. Furthermore, I have grown to be not as politically active as some of my other peers. Though I am somewhat apathetic, I would be fine in a stimulating environment...as long as it is not too radical.
But most of all, I seek a college environment which is intellectual and fosters cooperative competition, not cutthroatedness. I personally find it distasteful when one has the mind to ruin another student's efforts simply for their own needs.
I plan to follow the premedical path as a biochemistry major. Please let me know which of the schools listed above suit this subject well
For those who respond to this post, I truly appreciate the time that you have given to offer me advice. If there are any other recommendations (colleges) that you would like to make, please feel free to do so
Thank you again.

And why do you think this it?
Just noticed that many successful people are children of mixed race parentage:
Barack Obama - US President
Lewis Hamilton - Formula 1
Daly Thompson - Olympic Decathlon Gold Medal holder
Sade - Singer
Tiger Woods - Golfer
Ethan: Are you saying winning a Nobel prize and having the most powerful job in the world doesn't count as being successful?
I wasn't limiting myself to African Americans:
Daley Thompson: 2 Olympic Godl Medals - Nigerian + Scottish;
Sade: Ethiopean + English
Lewis Hamilton: Youngest ever Formula 1 world champion: Grenadan + English,
Tiger Woods: Most successful golfer of all time: African + European + Chinese/Thai.
Barack Obama: US president - Kenyan + Caucasian American

I'm going to be a Junior when school starts, and I was just wondering what I can do to better my chances. I know that Stanford has a very large number of applicants and a very small number of people actually get accepted. I also know that I have to work on the essays and standing out and writing well in the essays. So I guess I'm asking more about what to do academically and extra curricular-ly (yes, I know that's not a word. :D).
I currently have a 4.0 unweighted GPA, and by the end of high school I will have taken 7 AP classes (all that my school offers). I'm ranked 2nd in my class. . .
I'm taking the PSAT/NMSQT and the SATs this year, as well as the ACT.
When school starts I'll be in:
~ NHS (and running for office Senior year)
~ Student Council
~ MOVE club (Making Other Voices Essential, a service activities club)
~ Academic Decathlon
~ Odyssey of the Mind
~ Science Olympiad/Science Club
~ Track and Field
~ Cheerleading (if we get a new coach.)
I also volunteer at the Race for the Cure every year and over the summer I'm going to volunteer at the public library.
What more should I do/focus on?

I want to get into a UC and hopefully become a dentist or even orthodontist. However, my grades aren't outstanding. I'm an incoming junior and I have about a 3.6 GPA[I had mostly easy classes, in freshman year, I had a 3.3 GPA]. Next year, I plan to take ap bio, ap english, yearbook and be an officer for Ecology club[didn't make it last semester] :( I wanted to join track[long jump], but I'm reconsidering since I'm not athletic and I can only jump about like 5 ft. I'm currently volunteering at the library.
There aren't many other clubs that appeal to me[I definitely can't do chess club, Academic Decathlon, run ASB, etc]. Does that look like a good plan for junior year? I would probably do the same activities for senior year.

So I've been an A student most of my life, but my sophomore year in high school i took chemistry honors, since I've always been good at science I took the class, and during first semester i managed a B-, but my second semester i received a C+. So, how does this effect the my the possibilities in some colleges. I also do some extra circular things, like Academic Decathlon and Lacrosse. I'm also getting a bunch of community service hours helping out at an elementary school, and im also doing Mock Trail next year. I know that GPA counts a lot, but im not sure to what extent, and how much its going to effect the possibilities of getting into some colleges.

My over gpa in sophmore year is a 3.5. But no honors or ap. cuz i was degaf.
then in junior year, i took one ap and one honors. With the average weighted gpa of around 3.5.
iam deciding to take another honor and ap next year. My sat 1 score is 1780 SAT2 japanese 800 and math 2 don't know yet.
My extra curriculars are surf club, wood club, and academic decathlon. I won a couple of awards for the academic decathlon team. (our team also made it to state.) I ve also attended japanese school for like ten years and is fluent.
so is it possible that i can get into any uc's? (i would like to go to UCD but other schools such as UCR would be cool.) And do u think if i dont get into anywhere else except like merced, i should attend community college and tranfer through an honors program? thnx for the time

She is 43 lbs and now she is in the Britax Decathlon it's a 5 point harness and goes up to 65 lbs so she can stay in her seat for a while. Did you put your 4 year in a booster seat ? Am I being too over protective? I am afraid to have her in a booster without the 5 point harness .

I'm now a sophomore in high school, and I know a lot of senior guys who I met last year in Academic Decathlon (when I was a freshman and they were juniors). Some of them took immediate interest in me, and others have also developed interest over the months. They've always respected me and treated me more maturely than guys my age do--they text me first, they take interest in the same things I do, etc. I find I can relate to them a lot more.
Adults have always told me that I'm gifted and precocious, as do my parents and my peers. These guys respect me, and I feel like they understand my maturity, but at the same time, I'm not going to be with anyone for a sexually physical relationship. I'm abstinent until marriage.
Do you think they're after sex?

Fencing
Triathlon
Figure skating

At an olympic level and the training styles are different, and the woman has a better one. Which person would win? I'm just wondering because a lot of people say that, according to science, men would win due to more muscle mass and better circulation. But, I've read cases of women beating men in sports (on an elite level) that require strength and coordination. Plus some of the fastest women in the world can sprint equal to or very near some male decathletes in the 100 meter dash.
I hope no one gets offended by my question, I'm just curious.

I'm 13 years old and there's an event called an Academic Decathlon. I tried very hard for good grades so that I can get in, and I even skipped sports games to study. I got all A's and one 92%, B+, in religion. I was proud of myself and signed up for the decathlon. I was very excited to see if I had made it and I've only been assigned to be an alternate! I got better grades than people that made a single subject and I'm really sad and mad. I feel like I tried so hard for nothing. How can I make myself feel better?

For example she often says "oh you HAVE to have straight As to get into any ivy league school" (I got 3 Bs 1st semester of sophomore year(she has gotten straight As)), or "SATs dont even matter to get into ivy league schools, its all about the ACT" ( i got 2100 on the SAT, but got 29 on the ACT, which is not as good i dont thin (she did the opposite)). Also, she says "only academic clubs matter, no other ones do" (she is in science olympiad and academic decathlon, whereas I started the Harry Potter Club at our school, and am highly involved in SavetheWhales club and a volunteer group we have on campus).
So, First of all, I know i would have to write a stellar essay, but does th info alone ruin my chances for princeton? and how can i can i tell her kindly to please SHUT THE HELL UP.
thanks :)

ok, it is summer right now and when school starts in the fall I will be a junior. I want to attend the naval academy and know it takes alot just to get accepted, so I was going to list everything that I have done or I am in since I started high school 2 years ago.
I had an unweighted GPA of roughly 3.4, and I am in the top 20% of my class. I took 4 pre-ap classes and an extra math class, and 3 electives, including academic decathlon (we go to state every year) band and american sign language. I am a member of music honor society and although I was not accepted into NHS this year, Im aiming to be in it next year. I plan to volunteer through out the summer and school year and join student council again, and try to set up a recycling program in the school and eventually the town (small town). Recently I went to a leadership camp program. I got my TAKS test scores back and got comended in mathematics, social studies, science and was 2 questions from getting comended on english language arts. although I am not in athletics right now, I was planning on doing 2 non-school-related sports (karate and gymnastics) and I am in shape.
I am wondering if there is anything more that would be needed? I already looked at the usna website atleast 10 times and have looked at plebe summer and some of the training, aswell as compared what i have done to previous usna mids, but do you have any sugestions? thank you

I have teachers willing to write excellent letters of recommendation. what are my chances?
I also plan to apply to all the UC's, Notre Dame, Cornell, and USC, what are my chances for these different schools.

I need more info on this, and I'm having trouble finding it on Google. I googled Rice decathlon, and decided that this was the name of the decathlon that Rice hosts, based on the results I got. I'm trying to find out if it's open to the public and if there are age groups.

Dave Johnson, the bronze medalist at the 1992 Olympic decathlon in Barcelona, leaves the ground at the high jump with vertical velocity 5.35 m/s. How far does his center of mass move up as he makes the jump?
Pytanie #45:
I'm a freshman in high school, and he's a senior. I first met him at Academic Decathlon in September, but within a few months, we both quit. He found me on Facebook, and he added me. By this point, I already thought he had a crush on me, but I accepted because I didn't want to be rude. He started IMing me right away. Every day. All the time. I was really freaked because I heard bad things about senior-freshman things, and, to tell the truth, I was scared.
Around January, I finally gave in and decided I might as well get to know him. So we started talking, and I realized he was actually pretty interesting. Around mid-March, we got each others' phone numbers, and he started texting me pretty constantly. He texts me good morning and good night, as well as random things around the day. Now, we talk all day long... And that isn't an exaggeration. We talk about everything from music to philosophy.
I thought it was just a platonic thing because he doesn't flirt with me, but then one night, he told me he wanted to kiss me at graduation. I was taken aback, especially because I liked him. It's taboo for me to be with him. My parents won't let me. Society won't let me. I won't let me.
What should I do? Why does he like me?
Pytanie #46:
My decathlon team and I, are going to six flags. We have to leave at 3:45 AM, and I am wondering if I should either stay up until 3, because I have to shower and pack my carry on bag, or just go to sleep and wake up at 3. I am a night owl, and when I'm up; I'm up.. So I know if I sleep now, more then likely I will be awake on the bus when everyone is trying to sleep. We are driving there from 3:45-10 AM. Oh, I also had a nap tonight from about 4:30-6 so I'm wired. Which should I do?

"The decathlon is contested mainly by male athletes, while female athletes contest the heptathlon."
from wikipedia, and i'm sure it's true because that's the way it works in the olympics, although some competitions may do it differently.

Just to clarify. Please design a decathlon that would help us decide which one of us would be a better jack bauer. The skills should test all of jack bauers abilities, physical, mental, and otherwise. Also should be doable for a bunch of kids.
